Kris & Ashley Cancun Wedding | Destination Wedding Photographers

Posted on May 11, 2011

Micah & I never imagined we would shoot TWO destination weddings in one week, so when Ashley contacted us to photograph their Cancun wedding that was only 2 days after another wedding we were shooting in Cancun, we were giddy with excitement! How fun is that? Celebrating two weddings in a single destination location?! Um… yes, please! Also, Ashley & Kris’s resort was only about 1.5 miles away from the resort we had booked to stay at for Arlene & Derrell’s wedding. SO perfect!

Ashley & Kris are from Canada so a tropical wedding was a dream for them! Since only a few family and friends could make such a long trip, they planned to have a reception back in Canada this May, and they asked us not to post pictures until after their reception so they would be a surprise for their guests. Needless to say, we’ve been super excited to post these for a while now!

This couple was such a delight to get to know, we only wish we could see them more often! Maybe we should have a reunion back in Mexico? :) Anyway, we were so blessed by them and treasured the time we did get to spend with them.

We also shot Ashley & Kris’s Day After session at sunrise on the morning we left Cancun and it was SO much fun. We will post those pictures next, so keep an eye out! Enjoy!

Arlene & Derrell Day After Session | Cancun Destination Wedding Photographers

There is a different spirit about a day after session. It’s the joy that overflows from the beginning of new season in the newlylwed couple. Plus, when you’re doing a Day After Session in Mexico, it kinda feels like we get to be on their honeymoon vacation, too! We had such a blast getting to know Arlene and Derrell and getting to spend their wedding day with them. The Day After Session just totally topped the cake. The whole session was relaxed and perfect. We fit right in with the slow paced beach lifestyle, just strolling along the beach, stopping when something caught our eyes. At the end of the trip, we reflected on how much we love Arlene and Derrell and how much we love to travel.

Did we mention we love to travel? :)

Enjoy Derrell & Arlene’s incredible Day After Session!

Derrell & Arlene: Cancun, Mexico | Destination Wedding Photographers

All of our bags were packed, Micah was spending the night at my house, and we were set to leave for the airport at 4:30 the next morning. In just a few hours we would be enjoying the sound of the lapping waves and the feel of the warm sun on our skin. Unfortunately, the trip to Mexico was not as pleasurable as we anticipated. I’ll save the details for another post, because it will be a long (and exciting!) one that includes the tales of overcoming fear, traveling with an illness, and other exciting news. Nontheless, by the time we finally got to Cancun, we were happy to be there to document Arlene & Derrell’s wedding.

Even though we had never met Arlene & Derrell before we got to Mexico, it wasn’t hard to fall in love with them. Honestly, just by the number of people at their wedding it was apparent that they have made an impact on a lot of people in a very positive way. The two of them were so fun to be around, so genuine, so caring. We were just honored to be there with them.

We started their morning off with Arlene and the girls in her family for a brunch and toast. Arlene was giddy with excitement and all of the girls shared in her joy. The room was filled with peace and we knew it was going to be a special day. The day included an unforgettable ceremony on the beach, a really long walk to the reception carrying all of our lighting equipment (because I got us lost in the resort… woops!), some amazing dance moves with the assistance of long, white balloons, and a whole lot of friends and family supporting Arlene and Derrell. It was SUCH a memorable day!

Oh, and don’t forget, we got to do a Day After Session with the two of them that next day! We can’t wait to share those pictures! For now, enjoy Arlene & Derrell’s Wedding Day!

Arlene was super organized. She had a binder with all the detials in different tabs with pictures and ideas for each one, plus the contracts and business info included. Amazing.

We found a friend. :)

Isn’t she stunning?

Arlene’s mom danced back down the aisle with excitment! So precious!

I had to grab this shot! It was so funny when I walked back to take a wide angle shot and saw all these cameras!

We thought this was so sweet. Since their grandmother couldn’t make it to the wedding, they brought a picture of her to make sure she was included! So sweet.

This is a moment we will never forget! Awesome. And confusing. But more awesome than anything.
