Double Knot Workshop | August 2011

Posted on August 25, 2011

Workshops are so fun to us. We get to dream with people, hear their stories, and help them create a plan to achieve goals while giving them tools to reach new heights along the way. Every workshop has truly been such a blessing and this one was nothing short. The girls were such great learners – soaking in all that we shared like sponges. By the time we got out to the photo shoot, they were nailing exposures and really impressed us by their quick comprehension! It’s so great to see that happen…. exactly what we were hoping for!

Our models for the photo shoot were none other than the cute Jen Sprayberry and her two girls. Although Jen and her husband, Justin, have a family of 6 – including two boys – we thought it would be fun to do a Mommy & Me type of photo shoot. We were SO pleased when Jen and the girls arrived in the cutest of all whimsical outfits. Adorable! We couldn’t have chosen more perfect models. Both little girls were precious and sweet, but that’s no surprise seeing as their mom has a heart of gold. Such a treat to photograph them!

Here are some of our favorites from the session! Thank you again, Jen & girls for modeling and thank you workshop attendees for sharing the day with us!

Double Knot Workshop

We woke up like it was Christmas morning. There had been so much planning and praying that took place before this day, so for it to finally be here, we were more than thrilled. We woke up extra early to go set up a little something special for the “Watch & Learn” portion of our workshop where we did a photoshoot. As we rushed back to the house to shower and get ready, I (Ashley) tried to imagine how the day would play out and it made me nervous, so I turned up worship music as loud as my ears could stand. As soon as we were ready, we headed to our workshop destination… my parents’ house!

As each girl arrived to the workshop, we got more and more excited. Every minute we spent with them got even better. Every hour was filled with laughter, encouragement, and lots of nerdy photography talk. The whole day was precious to us.

As Micah and I were talking late that night, she painted a perfect picture of how the day went. We felt as though God presented us with gifts all day long. We got to “unwrap” beautiful gifts throughout the day as we talked to each girl, told them our successes and failures, and encouraged them to walk in their uniqueness with confidence. The moments when light bulbs came on over their heads, the time they said they felt like they could now go out and do what they want to do, the time they were connecting with each other in friendship, the divine conversations, the new friends we made… all such wonderful presents we unwrapped during our workshop. Every time we think about it, it’s like we get to unwrap it all over again and feel the same joy as the first time!

My personal favorite moment is when one girl said “I feel like we are all just a bunch of friends hanging out. Can we do this every Saturday?” We all agreed it would be awesome if we could.

So much happened that we can’t express in words so, of course, we took lots of pictures to document! Can’t wait until the next one!

Special thanks to my mom, Kim Justis, for hosting the workshop and taking care of all the food details. No one could have done it better! Also, thank you to Amber & Garrett Wiginton for being amazing models. Ya’ll killed it. Special thank you to Piper Lystad and her assistant Becca for doing hair and make-up for our female model. You will see for yourselves how awesome they are and will want to book them for your wedding day! Thanks everyone! :)
